10,000 Small Businesses at Long Beach Community College


During the program open enrollment periods, the application will be posted and available for download on this page. Please also check back for details on information sessions, which are typically scheduled in the month before each application deadline.

10,000 Small Businesses is designed for business owners who operate a business that is poised for growth.  Applicants must be the owner or co-owner of a business that meets the following criteria:

  • Business in operation for at least two years
  • Business revenues between $150,000 and $4.0 million in the most recent fiscal year
  • Business with a minimum of four employees (including business owner)
  • The potential and desire to grow and create jobs in the community 

 The program will be most beneficial for business owners who:

  • Own an established business that is poised for growth
  • Have a diverse base of customers
  • Can demonstrate that they have thought critically about how to grow their firms

 In addition, broad characteristics of business owners targeted to participate include, but are not limited to:

  • Limited access to a business and management education program
  • Limited financial resources to obtain a similar level of education
  • A desire to grow the business and create jobs

 Exceptions to eligibility criteria may be considered in cases where the owner and/or business location has substantial opportunities for growth.

 In addition, applicants must:

  • Submit their applications prior to or by submissions deadlines for each enrollment period.
  • Be prepared, if selected as a finalist, to attend a mandatory 20-minute in-person interview at Long Beach Community College District as published.
  • Be prepared to attend a welcome orientation in the LA area as published.
  • Be prepared to attend the program orientation as published.
  • Commit to attending all learning sessions starting as published. (anticipated schedule listed)
  • Commit to completing homework in advance of each session and to participating in business advisory, mentoring and related services between classes.  This commitment totals approximately 6-8 hours per week
