--Currently, both the LMS Moodle and the LMS Canvas are being used at LBCC.

--Find out more here about the timeline of this Transition Year from Moodle to Canvas.

Helpful Hints and Best Practices:
When teaching with either LMS please make note of the following
items:

Access to
Both Learning
Management Systems

Communicating with Students and Your Introductory E-Mails

Don't Forget!
Make your Course Available!

Your Online Syllabus/
Syllabus File

Naming
Downloadable Files
(PDF, Word, etc.)

Access to both Learning Management Systems:

All assigned classes are available to faculty in your Dashboards in Moodle or Canvas.
You will see your current
lecture sections when you log on.

The direct links to log into both Moodle and Canvas are available for students/faculty/staff on our Distance Learning site (http://www.lbcc.edu/dl)
Pathway: LBCC Homepage > Distance Learning (upper left).
Direct Links
•  Moodle: lms.lbcc.edu
•  Canvas: lbcc.instructure.com

Communicating with Students and/or Your Introductory E-Mail to Students

Whether your class is online, hybrid, blended or face-to-face, when communicating with students:

1) specify WHICH LMS you are using, and
2) include the correct link, so that students know exactly where to go, OR
3) provided the link to the Distance Learning page, where both links are shown.

Include info about the Online Learning Student HelpLine, so that students know they can call us for technical help. 562-938-4818.
Include info about the
24/7 Support for Canvas: http://www.lbcc.edu/canvas

Don't Forget to Make Your Course Available to Students

It is essential that you make your course site available to students .
The courses (by default) are set to be hidden from students until YOU make them available to students.

Make your Moodle Course Visible:
http://www.lbcc.edu/Moodle/documents/Tutorials/visibility27.pdf

Publishing Canvas Course Sites:

http://www.lbcc.edu/Canvas/tutorials.cfm
Your Online Syllabus and / or Syllabus File

We strongly recommend that you provide a PDF version of your syllabus to your students (rather than MS Word) and that you include a PDF even if you are using the online Syllabus tool in Canvas.
Naming Downloadable Files

When you provide files to students through the LMS (PDFs, etc.), do not use spaces or any other characters in the file name. Students may have trouble accessing these files.
An example:
StudyGuide01.pdf
rather than Study  Guide_1.pdf
