Transition from Moodle to Canvas 2017-18
Canvas

LMS Transition 2017-2018
Moodle has been the Learning Management System (LMS) used at LBCC for online, hybrid, and web enhanced classes. However, we are in the process of transitioning to the LMS Canvas, as part of the California Community Colleges Online Education Initiative (http://www.lbcc.edu/Canvas/info.cfm).

All faculty will have one full year (until summer 2018) to transition into Canvas from any other system they are currently using. During this one-year transition (Summer 2017 to Summer 2018) we will continue to provide faculty and staff with a variety of training opportunities on learning and using Canvas.

During the transition year:
When
you teach with the Canvas LMS, you must activate your “Moodle LMS” course and post instructions for your students on how to access your canvas LMS pilot course(s). (Note: this is actually an LBCC policy for anyone not using a college LMS).

In LBCC’s Canvas LMS: you must make clear to your students the difference between Moodle LMS and Canvas LMS so they are not confused on where all their classes are.

If you have any questions about the implementation and transition to Canvas, please contact:
Dr.
Hussam Kashou • Director, Instructional Technology & Distance Learning • 562-938-4626 • hkashou@lbcc.edu

When teaching with Canvas please make note of the following items:

Classes on the LMS: All assigned classes are available to faculty in your Dashboard in Canvas. You will see your current lecture sections when you log on. The courses (by default) are set to be hidden from students until you “Publish” your course site.
Publishing Canvas Course Sites:

Access to the Learning Management Systems:
The
links to log into both Moodle and Canvas are available for students/faculty/staff on our Distance Learning site (http://www.lbcc.edu/dl) look for the links on the left-hand side navigation.
