General Education Outcomes (GEOs)
College Catalog

Long Beach City College's General Education Outcomes are:

I.    Aesthetics and Creativity:  The ability to appreciate a range of cultural expressions, including art, music, dance, theatre, literature, and film, as well as the ability to generate useful and original ideas.

II.   Civic Engagement:  The ability to participate actively in a democracy that respects the rights of diverse peoples and cultures.

  1. Democracy:  Develop and promote knowledge and skills to become informed participants who play an active an effective role in our society.
  2. Cultural Sensitivity/Diversity:  Appreciate and promote respect of individual differences that embrace the complex ways people integrate into their societies, cultures, and subcultures in order to participate in both our society and in diverse group activities.
III.  Communication:  The ability to effectively interchange ideas and information with diverse audiences and to act within the framework of a society based on information and service.
  1. Foundational Skills:  The ability to effectively read, write, listen, speak, and/or sign.
  2. Teamwork & Collaboration:  Cooperate and work effectively with individuals and groups using appropriate social skills.
  3. Information Competency:  Find, use, manage, evaluate, and convey information efficiently and effectively.
IV.   Critical Thinking:  The ability to analyze and evaluate a spectrum of ideas that are represented by theories, images, and concepts.
  1. Science Literacy:  Apply the scientific method to gain an evidence-based understanding of phenomena.
  2. Numeric Literacy:  Apply arithmetic and mathematical skills necessary to solve everyday problems.
V.    Wellness:  The ability to make lifestyle choices that promote physical, mental, and social health.
