Electrical Technology Program

Although PLC's are an integral part of the Electrical and Electronics programs, those who have the appropriate prerequisite background can take Motor Control classes independently.

The PLC laboratories are equipped with PLC's from various manufacturers including General Electric, Alan Bradley, Toshiba and Mitsubishi. The primary workstations include over 20 G. E. PLC's each with a P3 or P4 PC, control cabinet, pushbuttons, actuators and I/O devices. Manual motor controls are taught using 12 Labvolt workstations. Each of the Labvolt stations allows interconnecting, controlling and testing any combination of DC, AC, single phase or three phase motors and generators.

The large number of workstations allows students in the PLC classes to work on their own project from wiring to programming as shown in the photo gallery. The manual controls are worked in small groups of two or three students using the Labvolt equipment.

The control classes combined with the Electrical or Electronics core classes prepare students for work in automated plants serving various industries throughout Southern California.
