Calling Chicago, Illinois and Hillsville, Virginia, her homes, Karen Rose moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA.  Since neither of her parents graduated from high school and she was the first person in her extended family to attend college, she was motivated to get a good education.  She completed her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in English from UCLA.  Her area of emphasis was American Literature, and her dissertation focused on postmodern coming-of-age novels by women writing in the United States.

Karen joined the English Department at LBCC in 2002.  She is a member of the English Department's Technology Committee, and she is the web coordinator responsible for creating and maintaining the English Department's web site.  She is also the advisor for the LBCC chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

She is married to Skid from the band Love/Hate, and they have two daughters, Tess and Shae, who have a band of their own called World War Rose.  In her spare time, Karen likes to swim, run, read, and listen to music.
