Anne Le Barbu was born and raised in Brittany, in the West of France. She received a Maîtrise (B.A.) in Teaching French as a Foreign Language from the Université de Rennes II (France) in 2000 and an M.A. in French and Francophone Studies from San Diego State University in 2003 where she taught French during her graduate studies.

She has also taught at the Université de Rennes II, Gettysburg College (Pennsylvania), the Alliance Française of Los Angeles and at the Beverly Hills Lingual Institute, a private center for the study of foreign languages.
In addition to teaching at Long Beach City College, she teaches at East Los Angeles College.

She belongs to the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), the California Language Teachers' Association (CLTA), the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Pi Delta Phi French Honor Society. In 2008, she received the New French Teacher Award from the AATF for her dedication to teaching the French language.
 
Her contributions to the community included volunteering as an interpreter and translator for French-speaking asylum seekers and their attorneys for a San Diego law firm.
