President's Scholar Honors


The President's Scholar designation is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement in the college's Honors Program to students who graduate with an associate's degree.

  1. To qualify, a student must complete a minimum of six honors courses or Honors Interdisciplinary seminars with a 3.5 or higher GPA. (Minimum units required: 15.*

    In addition, a student must maintain a Long Beach City College cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher with at least 80% of all units attempted in courses numbered 1-99.* A student must also satisfy the college's "units in residency" requirement.

    *NOTE: Exceptions to the total number of units required and to the 80% rule may be made at the discretion of the Honors Program Committee.

  2. The President's Scholar designation is entered on the transcript, next to the associate degree notation. In addition, qualifying students receive a gold seal on their diplomas and are given special recognition at commencement. President's Scholars are the first to receive their diplomas and are awarded medallions which they wear at graduation.

  3. As part of the President's Scholar award, students customarily receive a cash scholarship at graduation.

Academic Senate Scholar Honors


The Academic Senate Scholar designation is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement in the college's Honors Program to students who transfer to a four-year college (without an AA/AS degree).

Honors Program

  1. To qualify, a student must complete a minimum of six Honors courses or Honors Interdisciplinary Seminars with a 3.5 or better GPA.

    In addition, a student must maintain a Long Beach City College cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher with at least 80% of all units attempted in courses numbered 1-99.* A student must also satisfy the college's "units in residency" requirement.

    The Academic Senate Scholar designation is entered on the transcript after a student has completed the 56 units required for transfer.

    *NOTE: Exceptions to the total number of units required and to the 80% rule may be made at the discretion of the Honors Program Committee.

  2. As part of the Academic Senate Scholar award, qualifying students will receive a certificate of recognition for this achievement.

Honors Student


The Honors Student designation is awarded to all transfer students that complete the Honors Program successfully.

  1. To qualify, a student must have completed a minimum of six honors classes or four honors classes and two Interdisciplinary Seminars with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

    In addition, a student must maintain a Long Beach City College cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher with at least 80% of all units attempted in courses numbered 1-99. A student must also satisfy the college's "units in residency" requirement.

    The Honors Student designation is entered on the transcripts after the student has completed the 56 units required for transfer.

  2. As part of the Honors Student award, qualify-ing students will receive a certificate of recognition.
