Eligibility Requirements
Honors Program

High School Students

Students enrolling at Long Beach City College for the first time should have an unweighted high school GPA (grade point average) of at least 3.25.

Applicants must be eligible for or exempt from Reading 82 or Reading 84.

Applicants must be eligible for English 1.  Students with an Advanced Placement (AP) test score in English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition of 3, 4, or 5 are eligible.  Students who have completed AP, Honors, or EWP English courses in high school should apply.

Students who have completed high school honors programs at Long Beach Unified high schools (e.g.  Distinguished Scholars, Pace, Quest, Merit Scholars, or University Scholars) should indicate this accomplishment on their applications.

Current LBCC Students

Once you have completed 9 transferable college units (courses numbered 1–99; P/NP units do not count toward the 9-unit minimum), you are eligible for English 1 (or exempt) and Reading 82 or Reading 84 (or exempt), and have a GPA of 3.0, we encourage you to apply to the Honors Program.

If you will have at least 9 transferable units at the end of this semester, we encourage you to apply--we will check your grades after you submit your application.
