Jury Duty Information
Human Resources

(faculty and regular monthly employees only)

<-- back to employee information

An absence from paid status because of an appearance in court as a juror shall be paid at full salary during the period of such absence for all regular monthly faculty and staff and all hourly academic employees.

1.What Do I Do When I Get My Notice To Serve?

An employee should immediately advise his/her appropriate administrator or supervisor upon receipt of a jury service notification.

2. What Needs To Be Done When I Actually Serve?

Each day you serve, your absence should be recorded by your appropriate administrator or supervisor as Jury Duty (Absence Code JDL) as per your departments' timekeeping procedures. The reported absence should be entered to the Time and Attendance Reporting System (TARS) according to the TARS Deadline Date on the Payroll Schedule and does not require the employee's signature prior to submission.

3. Do I Have To Bring Any Proof Of My Jury Service?

Each date of necessary attendance in court, either before a grand jury or as a juror, must be verified. The Court Clerk will supply you with an official certification form that states your days of service and this form must be submitted to your department Timekeeper for verification.

4. What Should I Do With My Jury Service Pay?

Upon completion of your required jury service, the court will issue you a check for your jury daily pay and a mileage allowance. You may cash this check. You may keep the mileage allowance. The remainder of pay for your days of jury service must be submitted to the College as reimbursement for your paid jury leave.

Check your applicable Bargaining Unit Contract for exact rules regarding Jury Duty Leave.

Send your Jury Service Repayment to:

Fiscal Operations/General Ledger (Jury Pay)
N 106 at the Liberal Arts Campus
4901 E. Carson Street, Long Beach, CA 90808.
