Long Beach City College's data warehouse is used to support forecasting and decision-making.
Traditional database systems are designed to support day-to-day operations through user transactions like class registration and payroll processing, and they contain live data. Data warehouses are designed to make reporting and analysis easier. Insight complements the existing operational database system and is used in a different manner.
A core subset of the data that exist in our PeopleSoft ERP system is imported nightly into the data warehouse. The data is read-only. Phytorion, Inc. designed our data warehouse structure in a collaborative approach with our data stewards.

LBCC selected Cognos 8 BI as its reporting solution and Enterprise Planning for enrollment management forecasting. Business Intelligence (BI) software offers a wide range of reporting from ad-hoc to dashboards. Data is collected, analyzed and presented in an easy to understand format.
End users will access data from role based dashboards. From their web based dashboard users can execute reports and monitor performance. Reports created by college business analysts can be attached to the dashboard or run on demand.
