Classified Professional Development 2015-2016

The Long Beach City College is committed to professional development for all employees within the College. In alignment with the mission, vision, and core values of the College, the Educational Master Plan of the College has established an institutional priority to develop and focus its human, fiscal, facilities, technical, and information resources in support of institutional goals. In the area of human resources, a measurable outcome is that faculty and staff who participate in professional development report learning, developing, or implementing effective methodologies that support student learning and achievement.

In support of our institutional priorities, the human resources division developed a comprehensive professional development plan for classified staff.   A classified staff professional development committee was formed through the personnel commission.  The committee consists of human resources professionals and the representatives from the labor union.  The committee has worked in collaboration with various departments within the organization as well as external stakeholders and partners. The development of this plan took into account the interests of the classified staff through a survey conducted in the Spring 2015. The plan was then tailored to meet these identified needs and interests. Collaboration with the labor unions, various departments, and management team has been essential to its successful implementation.

The work of the committee is continuous as our professional development needs are continuous and constantly evolving. The committee meets regularly to add additional professional development events. The following list is not inclusive of professional development activities currently under review.  Please check this webpage for regular updates as we continue to identify additional needs based on our staff surveys.
