The shopping cart is used to help you manage your selection of courses.
To enroll in the courses you need to finish the enrollment process. You are not enrolled in a course simply because it is in your shopping cart.
You can access your shopping cart via the main menu, or via a link in the Academics Section of your main page in Student Self Service. Look for the section title of Academics and then look to the bottom of the section for the enrollment shopping cart link as shown below.

The following is an example of your main shopping cart page.

In this example, there is one class, BIO 1A in the Spring 2011 shopping cart for this student. They are NOT yet enrolled in this course. It is only in the shopping cart.

By placing items in the shopping cart you can perform a validation, or a pre-check to see if there are any issues. Make sure to check the course's box in the left most column and then click on the validate button.

In this case the validation shows that there is an error with the selected course. The student cannot take this course because they have not taken the required prerequisite course: Chem 1A.
This is explained by the error message and the big red X as shown below.

Go back to your shopping cart by clicking the following button.

You can add a class directly to the shopping cart by typing the class number in the blue section to the left of the shopping cart. In this case the student knows that 30480 is a desired Chem 1A course.
The number is entered and the enter button is clicked.

The following screen will be displayed which confirms that a selected class is to be added to the shopping cart. Click on the Next button.

If all of the information on the Enrollment Preferences screen looks correct, click on the next button.

The following message confirms that the course was added to the shopping cart.

The original BIO 1A course is still in the shopping cart. It needs to be deleted.
Select the course and then click on the delete button.

Notice, that the Chem 1A course is still in the shopping cart.

Select it and click on the enroll button.
The following confirmation screen will display.
Click on the Finish enrolling button.

Notice that there was an error on this class as well. The student must take Chem 2 as explained in the error message.

Click on the Shopping Cart button to go back to the shopping cart.

If you do not know the class number of the Chem 2 class, click on the Search button on the left.

Enter the search criteria. In this case Chem is selected from the drop down menu and 2 is entered in the course number field. Then the search button is clicked.

The following is the Search Results page. The first class shown meets our needs, so we will click the select class button.

There is a confirmation page. Click next to add the selected course to the shopping cart.
