Music Degrees
Performing Arts

Music offers two AA degrees with emphases in both Classical and Jazz. Both are designed to prepare students to transfer to a university music program. The only significant difference between the two is the piano requirement on the AA degree. These courses are strongly recommended for all music majors, as a piano proficiency exam is required of all majors at the university level. They were not included in the ADT (Associate Degree for Transfer), because state regulations limit the number of units, and the approved courses were decided on in conjunction with all community college programs. It is possible to obtain both degrees.

AA in Music - This is our standard AA degree - Major courses plus General Education (GE) requirements (Plan A, LBCC).

ADT in Music - This is the Associates Degree for Transfer, which "guarantees" admission to a CSU music program. Note, it does not guarantee admission to a particular music program, as that is dependent on the audition; however, after being accepted to an individual CSU campus and its music program, y   our first two years of GE's and Major courses (from the ADT) are accepted. You must follow - and complete - the Plan B GE Pattern to obtain the ADT. The ADT can also be used with Plan C for the UC system.

Please make an appointment with an LBCC counselor as soon as possible to develop an Education Plan that coordinates your Major and GE requirements. Request one the counselors assigned to the Music program:

  • Sara Blasetti, Erainia Freeman, Ann Marie Nunag, Javier Villasenor

Please see the Applied Music page and the Audition page for more information on auditioning to become a music major at LBCC.
