Education and Employment
I received the B.Sc. in Physics from Haile Selasie I University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in June 1971. After teaching physics and mathematics to 11th grade students at Teferi Mekonen High School in Addis Ababa for a year, I came to the USA in August 1972 to go to graduate school. I received the MA in physics from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan in August 1974. I continued my graduate studies at Purdue University and received the Ph.D. in physics with a specialty in Theoretical Particle Physics in May 1980.

I returned to Ethiopia and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in physics at Addis Ababa University. I was very unhappy about the repressive political situation in Ethiopia at that time. So, I returned to the USA and started teaching physics first at Purdue University then at the University of Dallas in Dallas, Texas, before coming to California in the fall semester of 1983 to teach at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. From the fall semester of 1984 to the spring semester of 1988 I taught general physics and a couple of graduate physics courses at California State University, Los Angeles. I joined Long Beach City College in the fall semester of 1988.

Interests
I enjoy playing games with my two sons Danny and Mike who are 10 and 4 years old respectively. I love particle physics and cosmology. I try to keep abreast of developments in particle physics and cosmology by reading journal articles and books. I also like to read books on history and social issues whenever I have the time.
