His thesis was a sense of place investigation of Ojai, California with field work involving interviews and a survey of resident's perceptions of their environment.
He has been teaching Geography since 1993. He has taught nearly 250 classroom courses and over 20 field courses.
Mr Jones spent his four high school years in England and while there traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent six months living in India and Nepal. He uses slides from these experiences in the classroom. This travel experience, at a young age, gave him a profound interest in geography and the value of seeing geographic principles demonstrated in the field. He has successfully developed and offered field study courses to the Eastern Sierra, Yosemite, and the East Mojave.
Mr. Jones has traveled to over 40 countries and brings slides, artifacts, and personal stories of these experiences to the classroom.
Mr Jones received an internship at the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C. in 1992. He is involved with most of the geographic organizations in the United States and has been on the boards of the California Geographic Society and the Los Angeles Geographic Society. He is the current president of the Los Angeles Geographical Society. His contacts with these organizations keep him up to date on activities and developments in the discipline and in geography education.
Kris Jones enjoys working with students and teaching in the Physical Science Department at Long Beach City College.
