Teacher Education Program

 

Study Education at LBCC!

In the spring of 2017, Long Beach City College will begin to offer education courses for students interested in K-12 teaching. To start, there will be two sections of Education 20, as described below.  

 

 

EDUCATION 20, Introduction to Elementary Teaching

3 units

Tuesday/Thursday at LAC

EDUC 20 is an introduction to teaching that benefits those interested in pursuing careers in elementary education and can be applied to teaching at any level.  Students will complete 45 hours of fieldwork in local classrooms as part of this interactive course.

 

HOW TO START

  • Be sure to sign up for an orientation workshop during fall 2016 or winter 2016 (specific dates and times to be announced) to learn about the course and its requirements. 
  • How? Download and complete the registration packet,  which includes a LiveScan fingerprinting form and a “VIPS” form to volunteer in LBUSD classrooms. Be sure to use only the custom forms provided.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE FOR TRANSFER IN EDUCATION

Coming Soon!  ADT in Elementary Teacher Education

This transfer degree allows you easily to transfer to a California State University to continue your study of education as a Liberal Studies major. All courses articulate to CSULB.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • While the ADT in Elementary Teacher Education is expected in 2017, you can take these courses now in preparation to transfer. 
  • Reading faculty, including Megan Kaplinsky, mkaplinsky@lbcc.edu, and Judy Conn, jconn@lbcc.edu, are available to answer your questions.

 

 

JOIN THE FUTURE TEACHERS CLUB

The LBCC Future Teachers Club is a chartered club on campus that explores careers, transfer pathways, and current topics in education. Meetings are held on Thursday afternoons at LAC. It is easy to add your name to the club mailing list to learn about upcoming meetings and events, volunteer opportunities, and more!
