Welcome to the Sheet Metal Program website. The Sheet Metal certificate and degree programs are designed to prepare students for entry into the Sheet Metal Industry. Long Beach City College offers the only Sheet Metal Program in the Los Angeles/Orange region that prepares interested students for Sheet Metal apprenticeship employment.
Long Beach City College offers a day and a night program. The courses are 2-4 units, allowing for the same curriculum taught during the day to be offered at night to allow for full time day work and part time night school .
Long Beach City College offers broad curriculum and shop projects that provide the student with the necessary entry level skills to succeed in this high demand and rewarding occupation as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. These skills include but are not limited to sheet metal pattern development, layout, equipment operation, fabrication and field installation of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC), and introduction to the Architectural Sheet Metal Industry.
Our main goal is to prepare the student for employment in this rewarding field. The Sheet Metal faculty and staff bring many years of Sheet Metal experience to the classroom. The program employs financially qualified candidates as Federal Work Study students, where they have a chance to experience real shop fabrication projects.
We also sponsor field trips to the Southern California Sheet Metal Workers Training Center in El Monte. The Training Center is operated by the Southern California Sheet Metal Workers JATC Local 105. This union/management organization sponsors a five year apprenticeship training program, where apprentices work full-time in the construction industry along with supplemental classroom training. Long Beach City College students meet with the indentured sheet metal apprentices, and discuss the sheet metal trade as a career along with reviewing the application process.
Drop in anytime to the Sheet Metal shop at the PCC campus and you may get an instant shop tour. We are always happy to introduce the Sheet Metal Program and our fabrication equipment to interested students. Explore this exciting field with many rewarding career opportunities.
