Get your Smog Check Inspector and Technician Licenses in as little as

1 YEAR!!!

Smog Check Inspectors and Smog Check Repair Technicians are in high demand to meet the state emission standards.  California is the national leader in the pollution solution and the world looks to us to show them the way.  Smog Check Repair Technicians earn $45,000 to start and the sky's the limit on potential.  The road's not easy but the rewards are there for those willing to meet the challenge.  Work with today's computerized engine management systems to help green up our environment and have an exciting career in the process.

The Bureau of Automotive Repair has standards which must be met to obtain and retain a Smog Check license.

There are two types of licenses available, Inspector, and Repair Technician, with specific requirements for each to qualify for the state administered exam.

The Inspector license, which allows you to do Smog Check Inspections and issue a certificate to passing vehicles. Is the quickest to obtain.   The education requirement is accomplished by completing the Emission Controls course, AMECH 438, where the BAR certified Level 1 and Level 2 Training Certification is provided.

Renewal of the Smog Check Inspector’s license is accomplished with a Smog Check Inspector Update training session as required by the Bureau

Smog Check Repair Technicians can perform repairs on cars failing a Smog Check but must also have the Inspector’s license if they wish to do certifications.

To qualify for the B.A.R. Smog Check Repair Technician Licensing Exam you must have either ASE Certifications, or a combination of Education and Experience.  We offer the BAR Specified Diagnostic & Repair Training Certification in our Computers Course, AMECH 440 which also includes prep for the ASE A6 A8 and L1 exams.

Renewal of the Smog Check Repair Technician License is accomplished with the Smog Check Update training sessions as required by the Bureau.  We offer these programs as stand- alone classes in our Community Services program.
