A Dietetic Supervisor is licensed to direct the dietary/food services department in healthcare facilities. The DSS uses a registered dietitian as a consultant in the hospital setting. Long Beach City College offers a 29 - unit DSS program approved by the California State Department of Health Services - Licensing and Certification Division. Thus a DSS program completer earns a certificate accepted as a California state license and can direct a healthcare foodservice department. The program may be completed within two semesters but student may also attend part time.
DSS students must successfully complete a competency examination before a DSS certificate is awarded. The competency exam is offered at the conclusion of each semester and students can take the exam at the completion of all program courses.
Student should refer to the Dietetic Curriculum Guide for further information on program requirements and suggested sequence of courses.
