Mark Bowen is serving his second term on the Long Beach City College board, having first been elected Trustee for Area 3 in April of 2006.

Mark was born in the Bay Area and grew up in Orange County. He participated in the Key Club at Canyon High School and graduated with honors. During those years, Mark was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He attained the highest rank of Eagle Scout while organizing a service project for the Olive Crest Home for abused children.

Mark attended UCLA and earned his Bachelor's Degree in History in 1997. He received his teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton the following year. He is a Social Studies teacher at Roosevelt High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Mark has been a resident of Long Beach since 1999. In November of 2002, Mark and his wife Sara were married aboard the Queen Mary. They are members of the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, where they have been volunteers with the "Eagles Ministry", serving hot meals to homeless individuals. Sara is a volunteer at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and Mark is active in local community theatre programs, including the theatre department here at the college.
