Roberto Uranga became the first Latino to serve on the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees in May 2000. Currently representing Area 2 of the district, Uranga was unanimously voted President of the Board in 2002 and 2006.

Uranga's community service is extensive and continues to grow. He has served as President and State Deputy Director for the League of United Latin American Citizens; President of the Hispanic Business Association; Founder and President of the Long Beach Latino Leadership Council and holds board memberships in several philanthropic and service organizations including the Long Beach Branch of the Urban League, the Long Beach Community Partnership Committee, the Long Beach Selective Service Board, and Centro Shalom.

A product of Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, Uranga graduated from California State University, Long Beach, where he worked for eight years as an administrator in the university's retention program before joining the City of Long Beach as its recruitment officer.

Uranga is currently Superintendent of Towing Operations for the City of Long Beach, where he manages the operation of the City's towing services and police impound yard, an operation that generates over $10 million in revenue.

Uranga and his wife, City of Long Beach Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga, reside in Long Beach with their children Rosalinda, Emiliano James and Roberto Tomas.
