Music offers two AA degrees. Both are designed to completely prepare students to transfer to a university music program. The only significant difference between the two is the piano requirement on the AA degree. These courses are strongly recommended for all music majors, as a piano proficiency exam is required of all majors at the university level. They were not included in the AA-T degree, because state regulations limited the number of units, and the approved courses were decided on in conjunction with all community college programs.
AA in Music - This is our standard AA degree (Plan A, LBCC).
ADT in Music - This is the new Associates Degree for Transfer, which "guarantees" admission to a CSU music program. Note, it does not guarantee admission to a particular music program, as that is dependent on the audition.
The Jazz program was reinstituted in Fall 2014 as a transfer program, and both degrees will be updated this year (2014-15) to reflect that inclusion; the only significant change will be the type of ensemble. This does not delay students from pursuing a Music AA in Jazz Studies for the current academic year.
Please see the Applied Music page and the Audition page for more information on auditioning to become a music major at LBCC.
