Marshall Fulbright is the fifth Music Director/Conductor of the Long Beach Community College Orchestra and is in his sixth year as the Director of Orchestral Studies at Long Beach City College. His responsibilities include conducting the Long Beach City College Symphony Orchestra, the Long Beach City College Chamber Orchestra, teaching Music History and Music Appreciation courses as well as co-coordinating the Chamber Music and Applied Music classes.
Mr. Fulbright is a product of the Pasadena, CA Unified School District graduating from John Muir High School. Upon graduation, he attended Chapman University in Orange, CA earning a Bachelor of Music Degree in both Instrumental Music Education and Instrumental Conducting. Mr. Fulbright's musical path eventually led him to pursue graduate studies at the University of California in Santa Barbara, CA where he earned a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting.
Marshall has participated in prestigious conductor workshops and has studied with some of the most prominent conducting pedagogues in the country. He has attended the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen, the Conductor Institute of South Carolina and various other workshops sponsored by the Conductor's Guild, the Association of California Symphony Orchestras and the American Symphony Orchestra League. Mr. Fulbright has studied with conducting pedagogues such as David Zinman, Daniel Lewis, Gustav Meier, Jorma Panula, Thomas Wilkins, Harold Farberman, Jorge Mester, JoAnn Falletta, Leslie Dunner, Michael Morgan, and Donald Portnoy.
Mr. Fulbright came to LBCC after completing a teaching position at Evergreen Valley College (San Jose, CA) and prior to that he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colby College (Waterville, ME) where he conducted the orchestra, taught a music fundamentals course, and a music cultures/ survey course on Latin American Music. Mr. Fulbright is excited to be the newest member of the LBCC music faculty and is eagerly looking forward to further develop an already established and successful orchestral program.
