We have an exciting new scholarship opportunity for you!


AB 540 eligible students may apply for scholarships and financial aid.

AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive privately funded scholarships offered through public colleges and universities.

AB 131 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive state-funded financial aid such as institutional grants, community college fee waivers, Cal Grant and Chafee Grant.

AB 540 Eligibility

AB 540 allows any nonresident student, other than a nonimmigrant alien, who meets all of the following requirements, to be exempt from paying nonresident tuition at the California Community Colleges, the California State University, and the University of California (all public colleges and universities in California):

  • The student must have attended a high school (public or private) in California for three or more years.
  • The student must have graduated from a California high school or attained the equivalent (e.g., passed the GED or California High School Proficiency Exam).
  • The student must be registered at or enrolled in an accredited California institution of higher education.
  • An alien student who is without lawful immigration status must file an affidavit with the college or university stating that he or she has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file an application as soon as he or she is eligible to do so.

More than 700 scholarships are given each year, making our scholarship program one of the largest of all community colleges in California. Students are required to only fill out one application and the scholarship committee will match you with the appropriate scholarship, if you are eligible.

2014-2015 Scholarship Application file date ended on Friday, December 6 at 4 PM
Award notifications for the 2014-2015 academic year will be mailed around mid-May.

The new application filing dates for the 2015-2016 school year:
Start: Monday, August 25, 2014
Ending: Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 4 PM

2013-2014 Long Beach City College Scholarship Recipients
Spring 2014 installments are now available through Thursday, May 22, 2014

In order to claim your Spring 2014 scholarship award, please bring the following items to the scholarship office:

  • Spring 2014 class schedule ("List View" format)
  • Fall 2013 grades (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
  • Spring 2014 sticker affixed to the back of your ID card if you are returning to LBCC (or proof you paid for your College Fee)

Once we have verified scholarship requirements have been met, the scholarship award(s) will be sent to the LBCC Higher One debit card/account or the student can request not to use Higher One and have a check issued directly to them.

Ebell of Los Angeles: Ebell/Flint Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2014

Awards of Ebell scholarships are based upon character, scholarship, and financial need. The Scholarship committee's judgement as to the eligibility for a scholraship will be based onot only upon school and college scholastic transcripts in the usual form, but also an autobiographical essay, an interciew, written recommnedations on behalf of the candidate from persons with whom he/she has been associated either before or during his/her attendance at college.

National Council of Jewish Women/ Los Angeles (NCJW/LA)
Various Deadlines

The National Council of Jewish Women/ Los Angeles (NCJW/LA) provides scholarships, regardless of religious belief, to those who live and attend school in the Greater Los Angeles area, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and Ventura Counties. The highly competitive selection criteria include the ability to articulate a clear statement of goals, the likelihood of goal attainment, the personal courage & commitment of the applicant, and financial need.
