Professor-janet-Hund-and-Opuku-Ware

Assistant Professor of Sociology, Janét Hund obtained her Master of Arts in Sociology at Arizona State University and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Race Relations at Wichita State University. Janét completed her Master's Thesis on Factors Influencing American Indian College Drop Out Rates. Her interest areas in sociology include cross-cultural research, race and ethnic relations, social problems and stratification and gender issues Janét has been instructing sociology at the community college level since 1993, employed at LBCC full time since August 1997.  A major interest area for Janét is traveling: both international and national. In the summer of 1999, she traveled cross-country: a cross-country trek by car. She viewed various rural and urban settings ranging from Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota to rural Appalachia in Northfork, West Virginia to New York City to Detroit to rural Mississippi. In addition, Janét has traveled to Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. Most recently, she traveled to Africa, Asia and Europe for her sabbatical, during the 2003-04 academic year. Specifically, she traveled to Ghana, Tanzania, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Holland, and Germany to study cross-cultural norms and values as well as research the effectiveness of microcredit programs. In Ghana, she helped to implement Africa Alive Microcredit Association; every microcredit program serves to provide small loans to low income earning people, typically women, who would not otherwise have access to loans. Janét also met her husband, Opokuware (OWASS) in Ghana; they have one child, Jonas Kofi Oware.  Instructor Hund traveled to Ghana with 20 students in Summer 2005, organized the Summer 2007 trip with 13 students attending, and is planning for the Summer 2009 trip, in which OWASS and Jonas will both travel, too!
