Steven Aston (Production Manager) is a versatile administrator in the entertainment field. At UCLA he specialized in arts administration and production management. He has worked professionally as a stage manager in every form of entertainment and with numerous celebrities and artists as well as for Academy, Tony and Emmy award-winning directors. Steven has worked at Long Beach City College since 1983 as Production Manager for all Creative Arts productions as well as teaching classes in theatre management. He has been Manager of Entertainment Operations for Knott's Berry Farm and is listed in "Who's Who in Entertainment." He has toured the Pacific Command for the USO and is familiar in theatres and entertainment venues throughout southern California but he is most proud of the many working Equity stage managers he has coached.

Anthony Carreiro is an associate professor in the Department of Theatre, Dance and Film at Long Beach City College . A certified sword fighter with The Society of American Fight Directors, he teaches several acting classes, movement and stage combat for actors, introduction to theatre and dramatic literature. Tony received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 1982 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington 's Professional Actor Training Program in 1985.

A professional actor since that time, Mr. Carreiro has appeared in almost one hundred television shows including recurring roles on Frasier , Sister Sister and Deadly Games . Tony was a series regular on the award winning CBS show: Doctor Doctor . He has done scores of television commercials and over a half dozen major motion pictures, including: Lethal Weapon II and Liar Liar . Tony has worked in regional theatres and Shakespeare festivals as an actor, director and fight choreographer up and down the West Coast and in New York . He also teaches workshops on "Theatrical Combat," "The Busines of Acting" and "Acting for the Camera."

Cathy Crane launched her career in Theatre in Columbus , Ohio working with costume designer, Dick Frank, on Miss America pageant costumes. She relocated to California where she earned her MFA degree in Costume Design at California Institute of the Arts in 1984. Long Beach City College snatched her from unemployment upon graduation and she has been a faculty member ever since. Favorite productions at LBCC include: "Amadeus," "Agamemnon," "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "Marat/Sade," "Royal Hunt of the Sun," and "The Robber Bridegroom." Additionally, Cathy has designed costumes for: Shakespeare Orange County , International City Theatre, Theatre West, Back Alley Theatre, Long Beach Studio Theatre, Globe Theatre, Los Angeles City College , Chapman University , CSU Bakersfield and CSU Long Beach. Cathy is currently serving as the Department Head of the Department of Theatre, Dance & Film.

Richard Freedman - I was co-creator and editor of the U.C.S.C. literary journal Zygodactyl in 1984 & 1985.  I won the 1989 Lawrence and Lee award in playwriting for my full length work, “Overdue,â€? published as a Chapbook in conjunction with the University Press.  It was also performed by the Arrow Readers’ Theater of San Jose in 1990.  My play, “Sandcastles,â€? was a featured work in the 1989 season of the San Francisco New Playwright's Project.  My one-act play, “Same Old Thing,â€? was chosen to represent S.F.S.U. at the Off-Off-Broadway One Act Play Festival in New York City . My Play, “Crystal Knocked,â€? was a participant in the 1994 Fringe Festival, BAIT (Bay Area Intimate Theater), it was done again for the New Voices Summer Theater Marathon in Costa Mesa , 1999.  I’ve been a member of South Coast Repertory Theater’s advanced playwriting workshop from summer 1996 through the fall 1997, and was asked back to lead their Fundamentals of Dramatic Writing workshop in spring of 2002.

My short works have been read and performed by Stages in Anaheim , The Vanguard Theater Ensemble of Fullerton and the Orange County Playwrights Alliance Discovery series in Borders Bookstores throughout  Southern California .  Two of my short works, produced at Chapman University, were described by Kelly Flynn of the Orange County Weekly as “tightâ€? and “funnyâ€?, as well as, “understated works of subtlety and powerâ€?.  My prize winning full length play, Gift of God, has been produced by the L.A. Jewish Theater and the Ad Hoc Theater of Rochester, Minn.  In spring 2001 I was commissioned by the Public Corporation for the Arts in Conjunction with the Smithsonian Museum to write a short piece about the Pony Express, Pony Bob Invents Surfing.  Summer 2001 saw the completion of another commission, this one from Wells Fargo Radio Theater.  I co-wrote Mitzvah on the Mesa , the story of a Jewish trader who becomes governor of the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico .  The Wells Fargo Radio Theater asked me back in 2002, to co-author Prospect of Glory, a tale of Captain Sutter. In spring, 2003, my work returned to the LAJT, where my play, Halevai, received these words from Phillip Brandes of the Los Angeles Times, "Freedman's neatly constructed and capably performed new dramedy proves an agreeable excursion" .

I am currently the Literary Manager for the LA Jewish Theater.  I've also taught writing for the stage at the Palos Verdes Arts Center and Learning Tree University in Irvine . 

I’ve worked as a baker, a reader of court transcripts to stenographic students, a law clerk, a receptionist and a picture framer.

I participated in the 1993 Bay to Breakers race.  I came in 31,354th out of 80,000.

Hal Landon - During his 4 years at LBCC, Hal Landon has taught Acting I and Acting II, as well as directed for the Rehearsal and Performance (TART 49AD). He also teaches classes on acting technique and acting for the camera at South Coast Repertory. Hal is a Founding Member of South Coast Repertory, which as recently named one of the top five regional theatres in America by Time Magazine. He has acted in well over a hundred productions at South Coast, often performing leading roles such as Morgan in “The Drawer Boy,� Orgon in “Tartuffe,� Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol,� Undershaft in “Major Barbara,� Prospero in the “Tempest,� and many more. Hal also appears regularly in television and film. His most recognizable film role is probably that of Ted’s dad in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure� and “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.� Television appearances include episodes of Frasier, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Quantum Leap, Cheers, Murphy Brown, and many more. Don Marcy has done it all. Started at LBCC as an actor in 1967 and eventually earned a B.A. in technical theatre from C.S.U.L.B. and a part-time teaching credential. He has worked in every aspect of Stage, film and T.V. He has been a union propmaker for the motion picture studios, a free-lance designer, an Auditorium Manager, director, actor and teacher. After about twenty years away learning the craft he returned to the college and serves primarily as the master carpenter. He is married and he and his wife, Debbie have two children: Megan and Brendan.

Mr. Mortensen is a graduate of the Advanced Drama program of The Juilliard School for the Performing Arts in New York City. He holds a B.A. and M.F.A. in both Acting & Directing, and is a Member of Actor's Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, A.F.T.R.A. and The Dramatists Guild. As an actor his Broadway credits include "MacBeth" at The Circle in the Square and "How It All Began" (which he co-authored) for Joseph Papp at the New York Shakespeare Festival, at Lincoln Center – Electra & Orestes, The Ghost Sonata, The Alchemist, The Wood Demon and The Comedy of Errors. Regional Theatre credits include seasons at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts where he portrayed, Jack – The Importance of Being Earnest, Julian – Spokesong, Captain Bluntschli-Arms and the Man and Wilson- The Front Page. Other seasons include Stage West Terra Nova, Berkeley Shakespeare Festival – Hamlet, As you Like It, Henry IV, California Actors Theatre – Henry V , Scapino, Wild Oats. Colorado Shakespeare Festival – A Winter’s Tale, California Repertory – Dr. and the Devils, Night Rehearsal, Tom Jones, Taming of the Shrew and Dylan to name a few. Other Seasons include The Barn Musical Theatre, San Jose Music Theatre, The Grove Theatre, Sand Harbor and The New York Public Theatre. His film, television,commercial & voice over credits include recurring and guest starring roles on Knots Landing, Remington Steele, Dragnet, The New Adam-12, The Deliberate Stranger, Safe at Home, The Munsters Today, Hollywood Chaos, Godspeed-The Gail Deavers Story, Dick Tracy, Punks, S.O.L., Murder She Wrote, A.T.T, Ford Motor Co., Disney & Miller Brewing Co.

Daytime audiences may remember him as Paul Stewart on Days of Our Lives and Martin Tyler on General Hospital. His Directing credits include, A Cry of Players, Indians, The Tempest, Trinity, Unexpected Company and three Columbia Artists national musical tours which he also authored – The Americus Civil War Brass Band- A History with Music, The Dodge City Cowboy Band and The Riverboat Revue.

Mr. Mortensen is also a produced playwright and screen writer; some credits include, How It All Began, The Scoundrel, Hold-Outs, A Point of Honor and The Man in Blue.

His other related professional experience includes, consultant for Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at The Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles, Co-Producer B&B on the Arts for P.B.S., Producer – HCTV 26 Campus Collage, Producing Director for Shakespeare L.A.-98. Related professional teaching credits are: Lecturer and Adjudicator for USF/SUU Competition at The Utah Shakespeare Festival, Lecturer – Lincoln Center Outreach Program, Member of Tadashi Suzuki Classical Theatre Exchange, Guest Lecturer – Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Speaker- The Shanghai Drama Academy Cultural Exchange and Director/Producer for Kirti Management Young Professionals for seven years. Academic teaching credits include, California State University Long Beach, Long Beach City College, Cerritos College, Los Angeles City College and OCHSA. Mr. Mortensen is a four time Drama-Logue Award winner and Outstanding Graduate winning teacher for Theatre Arts & Communications from the International Communications Association.

Jan Quinn-Weyant, a native Californian, was educated locally at St. Joseph Girl's High School; Long Beach City College; California State University at Long Beach - CSULB - where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Acting and Directing; University of Southern California - USC - where she earned her Master of Arts in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Directing and Film.

Graduate work and Doctoral studies include: Law School at West Los Angeles School of Law; course work in Education and Film at Walden University via the internet and the University of Indiana in Bloomington. She has also completed studies in Theatre and Art at the Westminster University in London, England and course work at UCLA in screenwriting, playwriting, theatre management, and on-line education. In 1998 she completed her one year sabbatical and attended the Cannes Film Festival in France . Her sabbatical Dissertation "The Study of Behavioral Learning Skills Utilizing an Original Children's Theatre Musical, EMOTION COMMOTION " was well received. In Fall 2000 Jan was invited as a Professor of Theatre Arts and Film to be a delegate with the national People to People Ambassador Program. This delegation took a trip to China to see, discuss and analyze Theatre and Film with Chinese educational and professional counterparts.

Jan has been associated with Long Beach City College as a faculty member since 1975. She has written and directed eight original Children's Theatre musicals that toured Southern California. In1976 served as the Director of the Children's Theatre Program at LBCC; in 1982 was the recipient of a Grant by the California Community College Chancellor's Office - Fund for Improvement of Instruction - to make a film of her original Children's Theatre musical, CHOMP, CHOMP, CRUNCH, CRUNCH!. 1986 Jan was selected and awarded the National Women's Institute for Leadership in Community Colleges Development. Her proposal for the National Women's Institute for Leadership in Community Colleges as realized in 1987 when she created a successful Youth Theatre Program - a summer workshop for kids; In 1985 Jan co-founded the International City Theatre (ICT) - a professional theatre founded at LBCC - and now the official Resident Theatre of Long Beach, located at the Center Theatre in downtown Long Beach; served as the ICT General Manager, Outreach Director and Educational Director. Jan has earned good reviews acting in numerous plays and performing stand-up comedy. She has staged numerous plays, musicals and events at LBCC. She has directed plays at local theatres within Southern California. She is most proud of her directed productions, the musical NUNSENSE during the summer of 1993 ; FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF by Ntozake Shange, CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY by Lynn Nottage, which both earned strong reviews, and THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES by Eve Ensler - for which she earned the LBCC Associated Women’s Students "Women's Advocate Award". Most recently she directed THE LUCKY SPOT by Beth Henley and was awarded the “Best Ensemble Cast" award. Due of THE LUCKY SPOT’S success Jan was additionally nominated and invited to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.

At LBCC she has served as the Chairperson of the Department of Theatre, Dance & Film, and been a member of the Curriculum Committee for several years, currently she holds the position Curriculum Sub-committee Chairperson of the Committee on Academic Standards and Policies. Professionally she is affiliated with AFI and the American Theatre Association, and academically a member of the California Teachers Association, and the Faculty Association of Community Colleges of California. Presently she is a Professor of Theatre and Film and a Theatrical Stage Director. She has taught Film at LBCC for several years, and started teaching Film 1 online in spring, 2001. In April, 2005, Jan was invited to speak at the California Community College Foundation TechEd 2005 Conference held at the Pasadena Conference Center. She presented: “Teaching a TeleWeb Film Course Using An Original Student-Centered E-learning Environment" utilizing an online cinema class she created here at LBCC, with the assistance of the Distant Learning team. In 2005 Jan was requested by the publisher McGraw Hill to assist in the review and editing for a new textbook THE ART OF WATCHING FILMS, by Boggs & Petrie 7th edition, for which she was awarded a stipend.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE...

Jan is happily married to Bill. Together they are the proud parents of two handsome English Springer Spaniels named Prego & Grazi, three beautiful inside kitties, named: Skatoula, Merci & Beaucoup, and three adorable outside felines, named: Merlot, Chianti & Mozzarella. (We have an international & epicurean family.)

When not involved teaching or directing plays, pastimes include (but are not limited to) traveling, reading, cooking and gardening. Jan & Bill just returned from a holiday trip to Hawaii where they visited with family and met their great grandson, Ziggy, for the first time. It was fabulous!

Barbara has a BA and MA from Cal State Long Beach. She has been teaching theatre over 15 years at Long Beach City College, Boston College, Saddleback and Cal State Long Beach. Ms. Sorenson has conducted several independent workshops on characterization, improvisation and cold reading. She has performed in several of LBCC’s theatre productions and with other local theaters, including Newport Beach Cultural Center, Long Beach City Theatre, ICT, Munich, Germany as well as being a charter member of the Alternative Repertory Theatre in Orange County. She is a professional actress and has done several movies and commercials. Currently she is teaching Beginning Acting, Arts and Modern Man, and is developing online classes for the Introduction to Theatre and Theatre History.

Daron Sorg started at LBCC in 1991. He earned his B.A. in technical theatre from Cal State University Long Beach with an emphasis in Costume Design in 1993. Here at LBCC he is the Costume Technician. He is also faculty at Brooks College where he teaches the Sewing and Costume Classes. He has worked in different capacities in the costume area to include Cutter, Assistant Designer, Dyer / Painter, Tailor, Crafts Person and Shop Supervisor. He has worked with a number of theatre companies and colleges including Santa Ana College, Utah Shakespeare Festival, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Saddleback Repertory, Grove Shakespeare Festival, Chapman University, and Shakespeare Orange County. He is also the graphic stylist for the NFFC, a Disneyana Enthusiast group.
