Vocational Technician, Welding
Demetre Dovalis is an Instructional Assistant here at LBCC. He has worked in several different fields, with experience in ceramic mold making, electricians’ helper, AAA tow-truck driving, and even self-employed businesses. Such as presence fine custom ceramic gift work and Dovalis’ painting services (for residential house painting). Demetre also has a lot of experience in the sheet metal and metal fabrication industry. He was inspired by his parents who also attended LBCC as art majors with focuses on welding and metal fabricating. As a student, he excelled and joined the student government in the Welding Club. He took on roles such as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Club Representative. He also joined the Sheet Metal Club and served as President and Club Representative and was elected as both trade and industry representative on the student council.
Demetre has earned several honor awards, such as the Crystal Award (high honor at PCC), the Viking Award (Highest earned at LBCC), and the USA Today 1st Team Academic All-American award. He also was escorted to Sacramento by the Dean of Trades and Industry where he was recognized by-then Assembly-Woman Betty Karnette and Senator Alan Lowenthal. Demetre has worked in the Federal Work Study Program and then became a Limited Term Employee in a grant-funded workforce development construction program that prepared felons and otherwise unemployable members of the community to be able to work in the construction trades.
Demetre transitioned to an instructional assistant position in the advanced transportation technology program and currently shares his hours between ATT Center and the Welding Departments. He is a hard worker that enjoys helping students, emphasizing the importance of morals, character, and having a strong work ethic.
