Marie-Laure Hinton

Dr. Hinton was born and raised in France and also lived in Spain, Belgium and Switzerland. After graduating in Physics from the University of Montpellier and in Marketing from I.U.T in France, she relocated to the United States. In 1997, she received a B.S. in General Physics from CSU, Dominguez Hills, a Masters in French Literature in 1998 and a B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics in 1999 from CSU, Long Beach with highest honors. She completed her Ph.D. at UCLA’s French and Francophone Studies Department. Her dissertation entitled Emile Zola photographe focuses on 19th-century French literature and photography. 

Throughout her education, Dr. Hinton has been the recipient of prestigious awards and scholarships based on her commitment and dedication to academic excellence. At CSU, Long Beach, she was nominated Distinguished Graduate Student and received a Certificate of Excellence Through High Scholastic Achievement from the College of Liberal Arts. She was also a Merit Scholar at CSU, Dominguez Hills for the Los Angeles Collaboration for Teacher Excellence, and in 2003 was awarded a Graduate Scholarship from UCLA. She is a member of the National French Honor Society, the American Association of Teachers of French and the National Physics Honor Society. 

Dr. Hinton has extensive teaching experience in universities and community colleges in Southern California. She taught at UCLA, CSULB, Long Beach City College, Cerritos, Cypress and El Camino College. She was also a Teaching Assistant Coordinator at UCLA and CSULB and in 2001 was part of the UCLA Study Abroad Program in Paris. At Long Beach City College, she received an Outstanding Teacher’s Award in 2006 and is a member of the Board of Directors for Friends of Languages. Dr. Hinton sponsors the French Club and was the director of the 2008, 2009 and 2015 Study Abroad programs in France. She is part of the French and Italian for Spanish Speakers NEH Grant sponsored by CSU Long Beach. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation and an active member of the Century Club in the city of Long Beach.
