Meet Dr. Romali

Dr. Reagan F. Romali began her tenure as Superintendent-President of the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) in May 2017. She is a nationally recognized educational leader who has achieved groundbreaking work in student success, increased graduation rates, increased transfer rates and outcomes for minority students.

Long Beach City College (LBCC) consists of two campuses, with an enrollment of more than 24,000 students. Dr. Romali is responsible for the college’s $1.2 billion budget and more than 2,300 employees. Long Beach is California’s seventh-largest city with a population of almost half a million people.

Prior to LBCC, Dr. Romali served for six years as the President of Harry S Truman College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, with more than 20,000 students. During this time, the college increased the Federal IPEDS graduation rate by 300%. At the same time, the college increased the number of associate degrees by 129%, and the number of certificates awarded by 288%. In addition, Dr. Romali increased the rate of transfer of Truman College students to a four-year institution from 30% to 46% and increased the number of adult-based education students advancing to college-level courses by 108%.

She currently serves on the Advisory Committee for the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House, Board of Directors for the LBCC Foundation, and is a member of the Long Beach Rotary Club. Dr. Romali also served on various Chicago-based organizations including the Board of Directors for Tenet Healthcare – Weiss Memorial Hospital, Uptown United, and the Chicago Sinfonietta.

Dr. Romali holds a Ph.D. in Education from Walden University, an MBA from the University of San Diego and a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. She also served as an adjunct instructor at Southwestern Community College and National University.

Dr. Romali is a proponent of strong international relations and has a multi-cultural family. She has two adopted sons from the People’s Republic of China.

LBCC Celebrates Largest Graduating Class

Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) expects the largest graduating classes in college history this year with more than 2,200 students who are candidates for Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees, and more than 800 students who are candidates for Certificates of Achievement.

LBCCD Trustees Announce New Superintendent-President

Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees announced Dr. Reagan Romali as the final candidate for Superintendent-President during the regular monthly Board of Trustees meeting tonight (March 28). The vote to finalize the appointment of Romali as Long Beach City College’s new Superintendent-President will take place at the next Board of Trustees Meeting on April 25. It is anticipated that Romali will start her new leadership position at LBCC on May 15.

LB College Promise Competes at 2019 Bellwether Awards

Considered as the equivalent to the Academy Award for community colleges nationwide, Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) placed in the top 10 of more than 1,000 community colleges as a 2019 Bellwether finalist for its Long Beach College Promise 2.0 Program at the Community College Futures Assembly in San Antonio, Texas. Of the 1,000 programs reviewed by Bellwether, this puts LBCCD in the top one percent of all community colleges nationwide.

LBCC and the Port Celebrate Partnership

Representatives from Long Beach City College and the Port of Long Beach broke bread together in the LBCC Bistro in late November. The two partners celebrated the Port becoming the Long Beach College Promise first industry partner, and the Port of Long Beach Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College.

Center for Community & Industry Partnerships Announced at LBCC

From the Mayors’ Offices of Long Beach, Lakewood and Signal Hill to Seal Beach and Long Beach law enforcement, non-profits, health care, hospitality and a variety of businesses – more than 50 businesses and community organizations have signed on to be future employers and mentors of Long Beach City College (LBCC) students in filling needs in high-demand jobs and possible assistance with mentorships and scholarships.

LBCC Receives $3M Title V Grant

Long Beach City College received a $3 million federal Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve student success and equitable student outcomes for Latinx and low-income students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.

Two Years Free & Trades at LBCC

There is no better time to enroll at Long Beach City College. Long Beach City College will see two landmark changes this upcoming Fall Semester: tuition-free education for two years to all qualified Long Beach Unified School District students, and seven new and revised Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. Both will occur at the start of Fall of 2019.

More than 3,000 students to make up the class of 2019. Dr. Romali Delivers 2019 State of the College

More than 160 community members, business leaders, and elected officials attended Long Beach Community College District Superintendent-President Dr. Reagan Ferragamo Romali’s State of the College address today, July 18. In her keynote speech, Romali celebrated 2018-2019 academic and athletic accomplishments, as well as announcing two new centers that will serve the students at Long Beach City College starting in the fall.

Council of Carpenters Donate Food to LBCC

The Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) received a donation of 120 cases of food on Fri., Aug. 30, from the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. The food was collected for the College’s “Viking Vault” food pantries and will be distributed to Long Beach City College students in need.

Dr. Romali Nominated for Nuestra Imagen Award

The Honorary Nomination Committee and Board of Directors of Centro Community Hispanic Association (Centro CHA Inc.) recently informed Superintendent-President Dr. Reagan Romali that she has been nominated to receive the 2019 Excellence in Education Award at their 22nd Annual Nuestra Imagen Gala Awards.

Romali joins LB Public Library Foundation as Honorary Director

The Long Beach Public Library Foundation Board of Directors has invited Long Beach Community College District Superintendent-President Reagan Ferragamo Romali, Ph.D., to join them as an Honorary Director.
