LBCC’s DEIA Month begins with the Resource Fair, centered around the theme “Embracing Diversity, Embracing Renewal.” This year marks the third consecutive year of collaboration with LA County Probation, the City of Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services and LA County Justice Care and Opportunities Department, all dedicated to supporting marginalized individuals. Additionally, this month is observed as “Second Chance Month,” focusing on informing and highlighting the various opportunities available to create significant second chances for our returning community members. The ultimate aim is to achieve inclusive excellence by fully embracing the value and power that diversity brings.

Film Screening of “Grand Turismo”

Beyond the Box: From Performative Inclusivity to Direct Action

DAY/TIME: Thursday, April 18, 2024, 1pm-2pm
LOCATION: LAC, Building E, Nordic Lounge

LGBTQ+ Student Advocacy: From Performative Inclusivity to Direct Action. Join students from Pride Scholars as they present English 1S final projects. Students will present on an identified gap in student services, representation, and/or accommodations. Students advocated for change in four areas: the creation of a Viking Marketplace, an expansion of Student Health information, modifications to student parking, and enhancements to DSPS. Learn how students engaged in advocacy and made changes at LBCC.

Keeping it 100

DAY/TIME: Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 11am-12pm
LOCATION: LAC, W-201

To “Keep It 100″ means to keep it as real as possible and that is exactly what this panel will be doing.  This is an open discussion with industry professionals about life, career, how to overcome obstacles, and offer useful tips on navigating spaces that may not have been designed for individuals who identify as part of the DEIA community.

Licensing Workshop

DAY/TIME: Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 2pm-3pm
LOCATION: LAC, W-201

In collaboration with Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, we will host a Know Your Rights: Licensing Clinic to provide attendees with the knowledge & resources to better prepare for when they are preparing to get licensed.

Meet Your Village: Identity, Why does it matter?

DAY/TIME: Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 2pm-3pm
LOCATION: LAC, E-08L, Social Justice Intercultural Center

We will explore the concept of intersectionality and why understanding identity is crucial in creating inclusive environments in our college community. We will discuss how various aspects of our identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, ability, and class, intersect and influence our experiences.

(PLEASE NOTE: Some event days and times may be subject to change. ASL interpreters and CART services will be present at ALL DEIA Month events.)
