LBCC Black Student Success Week

We celebrate Black Heritage Month to recognize the achievements and contributions of Black and African Americans who have inspired others to achieve success. Join LBCC in celebrating Black/African American culture and history through a series of wonderful events throughout the month of February. All virtual events will either be hosted through Zoom or presented through our official Long Beach City College YouTube channel.

Black History Month Kickoff

Join us as we kick off Black History Month with music, food, entertainment, curated community resources, and fellowship!


Public History, Private Memory: The Legacy of Ellen and William Craft

DAY/TIME: Saturday, February 10, 2024, Doors open at 1:30PM
LOCATION: LAC, Bob & Barbara Ellis Auditorium

In collaboration with the LBCC Foundation, Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, and the African American Heritage Society, join us to meet special guests Ilyon Woo and Peggy Trotter Dammond Preacely for an unforgettable story of Ellen and William Craft depicted in Master Slave Husband Wife. This event will include an informal conversation followed by an autograph signing. Free and open to the public.


Beyond the Box: Black Love

Join us for an enlightening and heartfelt conversation about the uniqueness of Black Love. Together, we will celebrate the profound connections, cultural heritage, resilience, and empowerment that make Black Love a force to be reckoned with. Let us honor and uplift the beauty of Black Love and its transformative power in our lives and communities.

3rd Annual Performing Arts “Showcase”

DAY/TIME: Thursday, February 29, 2024, 7:00PM – 9:00PM
LOCATION: LAC, E Building, Nordic Lounge

Join us as we give LBCC students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to showcase their visual and performing arts talents. There will be live performances surrounding Black Culture that include: poems, monologues, self-written songs, dance pieces, and more! Expect Black History trivia and a raffle for prizes like gift cards and swag bags!
