Where can I find information about the Commencement Ceremony?

If I have already transferred to another school or received my certificate or degree, can I still participate in commencement even if I participated in an alternative ceremony with LBCC in 2020 or 2021?

Yes. If you register to participate in the commencement ceremony and are approved to graduate.

Is there a limit to how many guests I may have?

There is no maximum number of guests, but your guests are required to complete the RSVP and must show up on our list for entry. Seating is first come, first serve.

Do tickets need to be purchased?

All guests must RSVP but admission is free.

Do I have to register to participate in commencement in addition to applying to receive my award?

Yes. Both systems are independent and serve separate purposes. You must complete both processes to be fully cleared to participate.

Is there a vaccination or testing policy required for entry?

The event is outdoors and, as a result has the following orders in place:

COVID 19 – Guidelines on Masks and Vaccinations

In alignment with current City of Long Beach Health Department and the LA County Health Department and guidance, for this in-person outdoor commencement ceremony taking place on June 9, 2022, we will encourage guests and attendees to wear masks regardless of vaccine status, this includes individuals at higher risk of severe illness if they cannot maintain distance from others (California Department of Health).

There will be no screening tables checking vaccination status at this event.

Long Beach City College supports the City of Long Beach in continuing to encourage our eligible community members, families and guests to get fully vaccinated as it has been shown to reduce the likelihood of new variants emerging, prevents future surges, and avoids overwhelming the health care delivery system (City of Long Beach). 

Can I still purchase a Cap & Gown even though the option is no longer available on the commencement site?

Yes. Your cap and gown will have to be purchased from the bookstore on the Liberal Arts Campus directly. Bookstore hours are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 2 pm.

Can I participate in commencement if I still have classes to complete?

Please contact Admissions & Records.

How will the names be called if this year’s class is being combined with the previous two?

Names will be called by award type.

*Associate Degrees for Transfer will wear black Cap & Gown and Certificate recipients will wear red Cap & Gown.

Do I have to participate in the commencement ceremony to receive my award?

No. You may contact the school and arrange to receive your degree or certificate after commencement if you do not participate.

How would I get answers to questions about tassels, chords, or hoods?

The bookstore on the Liberal Arts Campus directly. Bookstore hours are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 2 pm.

If someone is transferring to a 4-year college and is completing the last course needed this semester, can they still participate in the ceremony?

What is the criteria for graduate honors and what cap and gown accessories apply?

  1. Highest Honors (GPA 4.0) – Hood w/ gold trim & gold tassel
  2. High Honors (GPA 3.75 to 3.99) – Hood with gold trim and gold tassel
  3. Honors (GPA 3.5 to 3.74) – Regular hood, gold tassel
  4. Associates – Regular hood, red/white tassel
  5. Certificate – Red gown, red tassel

Is participation in commencement rehearsal required?

No, students are encouraged not required to attend commencement rehearsal.

*On the day of commencement, students must check-in at Veteran’s Stadium near the baseball field (Thursday, June 9th) no later than 1:30 pm.
