This FAQ page will provide you with answers to typical questions that  LBCC students might ask during a Counseling appointment.

Why should I meet with a Counselor?

Meeting with a counselor is a good way to create an educational plan and identify all the courses to help you achieve your educational goals. Counselors can help you explore majors, career options, and assess whether you meet priority registration requirements to enroll in your courses sooner.

When should I meet with a Counselor?

You should meet with a counselor when you have completed the LBCC application and received your assessment test results. It is also good to meet with a counselor when you have any questions about your academic goals and regularly at least once an academic year.

How can I schedule an appointment with a counselor?

You can schedule an appointment in person at the Counseling Office on the LAC (A-1111) or PCC campus (GG-202), over the phone, or online at Online Counseling.

When should I check in for my counseling appointment?

You should check early before your appointment and no later than 10 minutes past your scheduled appointment time.

Where do I check in for my in-person Counseling appointment?

You can check in with a staff member at either of the Counseling offices on the LAC (A-1111) or PCC (GG-202) campuses.

What happens if I check-in more than 10 minutes past my scheduled appointment?

If you check-in more than 10 minutes past your scheduled time, your appointment will be canceled and you will have to reschedule for a later date and time.

What happens if I miss more than two counseling appointments within a 6-month period or do not cancel an appointment at least 2 hours before my scheduled time?

You will have to see a counselor through EXPRESS Counseling before scheduling a full 30-minute appointment.

What should I do if I checked in for my appointment, but have not been called by my counselor?

Inform the front desk of the delay and let them know you have not been called for your scheduled appointment.

Are children allowed at my counseling appointment session?

No. In order to provide the best environment to serve you, children are not allowed in the counseling session.

Am I obligated to meet with one specific counselor?

No. Although a specific counselor may be recommended, you have the ability to select a counselor of your preference.

How can I cancel my counseling appointment?

If you need to cancel your counseling appointment, you can call the Counseling Office directly, go in-person to cancel the appointment, or cancel online if you scheduled an online appointment. Remember, counseling appointments must be canceled 2 hours before their scheduled time.

How can I meet with a counselor?

You can schedule to meet a counselor through EXPRESS Counseling (5-minute session), by scheduling a full 30-minute counseling session, or by attending a New Student Workshop.

What is Online Counseling?

Online counseling is a webcam-based service that allows you to connect to a counselor via the internet.

Does the Counseling Office have an online chat feature?

Yes. The online chat feature is where students can ask 5-10 general counseling questions. If you have more questions or need more detailed answers, it is best to schedule a full 30-minute appointment with a counselor.

If I want to obtain an AA or S degree, what general education plan do I follow?

Plan A, which you can find in our General Education Patterns.

If I want to obtain an AS Degree for Transfer, what general education plan do I follow?

Plan B or C, which you can find in our General Education Patterns.

If I only want to transfer to a CSU, which general education plan do I follow?

Plan C, which you can find in our General Education Patterns.

If I am unsure as to what college or university I want to attend, which general education plan do I follow?

Plan C, which you can find in our General Education Patterns.

How do I get my transcript evaluated?

To get your transcripts evaluated, you must complete at least 12 units at LBCC and submit a Transfer Request Form. Once you have received your official transcripts, you must submit them to Admissions & Records.

How can I get clearance to take an English course?

You can qualify for taking an English course by taking the assessment test and placing into the course or by submitting a Prerequisite Form to Admissions & Records to verify the completion of the course at another college.

How can I get clearance to take a math course?

You can qualify for taking a Math course by taking the assessment test and placing into the course or by submitting your high school or college transcripts for a previous class that was taken.

When should I apply for a transfer to a college or university?

You must start the transfer application process at least one year prior to completing your required courses at LBCC.

How do I request to take more than 18 units at LBCC?

You must fill out a Request to Waive the 18-Load Maximum Form at the Counseling Office at either the LAC (A-1111) or PCC (GG-202) campuses.

How do I get my CSU Certification?

If all courses were taken at LBCC, simply fill out the Transcript Request Form at Admissions & Records or online. If any classes were taken at a different college. you will need to submit a Passalong CSU Certification Form and then submit the Transcript Request Form.

How do I get IGETC Certification?

To get IGETC Certification, you must submit the IGETC Certification Form and the Transcript Request Form.
