The ASB cabinet will be interviewing for 8 appointed positions available for the 2017 – 2018 academic year (August through June).

Applications Due Monday, May 22, 2017 BEFORE NOON to either Camille Bolton – ASB Advisor –  at the LAC in E119 or Roberta Maroney-  at the PCC Student Center (EE).

Responsibilities toward becoming an appointed Associated Student Body Representative includes; Mandatory Weekly Meeting Commitments: maintaining office hours to serve the student body, plan respective activities and build collaborations with colleges, attendance at Associated Student Body Cabinet Meetings are held weekly.

Requirements for all Appointed Positions include:  Must maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA, maintain a 67% completion ratio, be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units the semester preceding and during the term of office and have attended one semester at Long Beach City College prior to assuming position (ASB Constitution Chapter 1, Article IV Eligibility).  All ASB representatives are responsible for preparing weekly officer reports, including committee reports if assigned to a committee, as well as further represent the students through the development of the ASB Budget. Committee Chair members operate under the supervision of the ASB Vice President, who is responsible for monitoring ASB and District Committees. Must fulfill all duties and responsibilities as stated in the Ch. 2 General By-Laws, and assist with other duties as assigned by the ASB President, ASB Advisor and Dean of Student Affairs, as necessary.

The Representative of Legislative Affairs shall:

  1. Serve as Chair of the Legislative Committee.
  2. Serve as the SSCCC Region VIII representative for LBCC.
  3. Monitor state and national legislation that affect community college students.
  4. Coordinate lobbying efforts with college, local, state, and national representative.
  5. Chair ASB Constitution Committee. 
  6. To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
  7. To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)

The Representative of Arts shall:

  1. Coordinate ASB activities in the field of fine arts.
  2. Represent the arts area in developing the ASB budget.
  3. Help promote and publicize the Creative Arts programs
  4. Serve as Chair of Homecoming Committee.
  5. Serve as Chairperson of  Spring Sing.
  6. Be responsible for providing an activity for evening arts students.
  7. To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
  8. To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)

The Representative of Athletics shall:

  1. Coordinate ASB activities in the field of athletics including rallies. 
  2. Represent the Inter Collegiate athletics and Intramurals in developing the ASB budget.
  3. Promote athletic fund – raisers if conducted during the school year.
  4. Help promote and publicize athletic programs.
  5. Be responsible for providing an activity for evening athletic students. 
  6. To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
  7. To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)

The Representative of Publicity shall:

  1. Produce ASB publicity including, but not limited to, the Nordic Newsletter and election information.
  2. Coordinate publicity for all Student Body activities, including the programming of message boards, the upkeep of ASB display cases and electronic communications. 
  3. Serve as Chair of the Board of Communications.
  4. Monitor use and oversee policy of campus signboards along with Board of Communications and Student Affairs, Physical Education & Athletics or designee.
  5. Represent the areas of communication (newspaper, radio station, and television) in developing the ASB budget.
  6. Work with LAC Student Senate, PCC Student Senate and other appropriate student groups in the monitoring of publicity.
  7. Be responsible for the development and management of technology including Orgsync, ASB Webpage, Social Media and electronic signage.
  8. To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
  9. To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)

The Representative of  Sustainability:

  1. To address safety issues of both LAC and PCC, as they relate to students.
  2. To be the official liaison of Health Services and promotion of related services.
  3. To coordinate ASB Cabinet participation in Beach Clean-Up in the fall, and other sustainable initiatives for the betterment of the student body.
  4. To coordinate ASB participation of Earth Day in the spring, and other sustainable initiatives for the betterment of the student body.
  5. To advocate awareness and publicity of activities of a progressive student environment (i.e. campus clean up, recyclables, Student Health Services).
  6. To arrange initiatives to of sustainable activities to evening students.
  7. To adhere to posted office hours[for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
  8. To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)

The Representative of Volunteer Services shall:

  1. Attend weekly Viking Volunteer meetings as a member.
  2. Communicate Viking Volunteer Opportunities College-wide.
  3. Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Viking Volunteers.
  4. Serve as liaison between the ASB Cabinet and the Viking Volunteer Program.
  5. Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit community volunteer opportunities for LBCC students.
  6. Assist with semi-annual awards reception and annual Volunteer Faire.

The Representative of Academic Affairs shall:

  1. Be the liaison between the ASB Cabinet and campus academia by corresponding regularly with all department deans, academic program Representatives, and academic board Representatives, specifically creating direct and effective communication with the President of the Academic Senate, the Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  2. Create direct communication with academic organization on campus and other representatives of academics on campus so as to establish and assist with the campus’ academic affairs.
  3. Be responsible for running an extra-curricular academic activity (i.e. forum or workshop) for evening students.

The Representative of Student Support Services shall:

  1. Be the liaison between the ASB Cabinet and campus Student Support Services area.
  2. Create direct communication with Student Support areas on campus and other representatives.
  3. Be responsible for running an extra-curricular academic activity (i.e. forum or workshop) for students.

All Cabinet Officers shall perform additional duties and sit on committees as assigned by the President.
