Long Beach City College Foundation recently received a generous gift from a very enthusiastic and dedicated alum. Dr. Ardel Guillamas Avelino committed to a $25,000 lead gift towards the $1M Alumni Campaign. This generous gift will support student scholarships in the Registered Nursing Program. “Ardel is a proud alum and is a leader in the community. We are grateful for this transformational gift.” CEO, Paul Kaminski

Dr. Ardel Guillamas Avelino is the Senior Director of Operations at St. Mary Medical Center Dignity  Health. A transformational leader, he has extensive experience in healthcare operations as a hospital executive. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the hospital as incident commander and was designated as the administrator in charge to partner with the State of California. Among other responsibilities, he established a hospital drive-thru testing site ultimately serving 6,313 members of the community. A product of the Long Beach Unified School District, he is also a proud alumnus of the Long Beach City College registered nursing program and served as an adjunct faculty/clinical instructor. Additionally, he holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Holy Names University, a master’s in healthcare administration from California State University, Long Beach, and a doctorate in nursing/executive leadership from Baylor University. Dr. Ardel is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Avelino was most recently inducted into the Long Beach City College Hall of Fame and continues to show his support and dedication to his alma mater. Dr. Avelino’s gift is intended to encourage other alumni to work together to support our growing and diverse student body. Together, alumni can contribute to the Alumni Campaign to build a $1M endowment to provide scholarships and other programs to support the growing student body population. By establishing this gift Dr. Ardel Avelino officially kicked off an Alumni Campaign to support the ongoing needs of our students and with Dr. Avelino, we invite you to join this Alumni Campaign.
