LBCC Students to Play in Summer’s End Community Jazz Celebration
Saturday, August 28, 2021
Five of LBCC’s students have been invited to play with Grammy-nominated producer Xavier Gordon at a free concert headlined by renowned pianist David Benoit in Scherer Park on Saturday, August 28.
Partners of Parks, in collaboration with the Office of Councilmember Al Austin, II and the Long Beach City College Foundation, will present a free community celebration in recognition of the Grand Reopening of businesses in the 8th District with a “Summer’s End Community Jazz Celebration” 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, August 28 at Scherer Park located at 4600 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90805.
The Summer’s End Community Jazz Celebration will be hosted by KJAZZ DJ, Bubba Jackson with David Benoit, Grammy-award winning Jazz pianist, composer and producer as the headliner. The opening lineup will include Millennial musicians who are deemed to be the next generation of Jazz stars – from Xavier “X” Gordon, Black Nile and the Tatiana Tate Quartet. A Horn Line from the Long Beach City College Jazz Studies program will be featured in a special performance. The celebration will begin by honoring the historical origins of Jazz with Jackson’s special guest, Blues artist Yolanda Johnson.
“After the unprecedented past year and a half, this is a great opportunity for families and music lovers to come out and enjoy some outstanding jazz in an outdoor setting to mark the end of the summer and celebrate the resilience and vibrancy of our community,” said Councilman Austin.
Families with young children are encouraged to attend and check out the Kool Kids Jazz Korner, featuring Jazz themed arts and crafts. There will be a special area for non-profits that focus on the health and development of children, teenagers, and young adults to promote their programs. A delicious and unique line of food trucks will be curated by Debbie Perez of the Food Connection.
“The collaborative effort behind the Summer’s End Community Jazz Celebration will make this a memorable day of great music, food and fun,” said Celebration Organizer Debra Peterson.
Funds raised will be donated to Ronald McDonald Charities and the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach Dean A. Eastman – Fairfield Club.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at levels ranging from $1000 to $20,000. Learn more about sponsorships at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/sejc
