Being both educators and residents of Long Beach, Hugh and Jill Vanderlinden saw the opportunity to fund an endowed scholarship as an easy decision. “We wanted to leave a legacy in our community,” the couple explained, “and although we work in education outside of our Long Beach community, we wanted to support education here where we live.”

The Vanderlindens chose to fund their $25,000 endowed scholarship over a period of five years. “The option to fund this endowment over a period of five years was very appealing to us,” points out the couple, “the LBCC Foundation worked with us to answer all our questions and we are very happy to help students who are interested in music.”

When fully funded, the scholarship will provide $1,000 a year to a deserving student and will live on in perpetuity. “We are very grateful,” emphasized Paul Kaminski CEO of the LBCC Foundation, “even though Hugh and Jill are not alumni, they have chosen to support their community college. That is inspiring!”
