Online Multidisciplinary Success Center

Post

Long Beach City College’s Multidisciplinary Success Centers support students enrolled in online courses that have a supplemental learning assistance (SLA) requirement.  Supplemental Learning Assistance (SLA) provides students with the opportunity to further their understanding of topics presented in class by way of supplemental activities.  SLAs come in three different formats.  All online SLAs are in the form of a directed learning activity (DLA).  These are to be worked on independently by the student and include a follow up with an MDSC tutor or instructional specialist.  Your SLA requirement is not complete until the follow up session has occurred.

Students enrolled in on-campus courses, may not complete the SLA requirement online, but should instead consult with their instructor for further instruction.

What online classes require SLA?

The following online courses require students to complete directed learning activities (DLAs) and follow up sessions through the online multidisciplinary success center:

AH 60
Couns 1
Learn 11

What Is A DLA?

DLAs, or directed learning activities, are individual activities that you will complete to fulfill the online AH 60, Couns 1 and Learn 11 SLA requirement.

DLAs can be completed at your own pace, concluding with an online follow-up session with a Center staff member.

DLAs relate directly to your course and are meant to help you become a more successful student not only in your course for which they are assigned, but in all of your classes
