Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts Department at LBCC has state of the art facilities and experienced faculty that provide a professional and inclusive hands-on learning environment to prepare students for successful careers in food services. 

The Culinary Arts program provides students with standard, occupational, entry-level skills in the Culinary Arts, and improves the understanding of culinary fundamentals with hands-on training using traditional and state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, with an emphasis on industry-standard safety and sanitation practices.

Degrees & Certificates

Associate in Science Degree (AS), culinary Arts

Plan Code: 2147 - Students learn skills for positions in food preparation for institutional, restaurant airline catering, convention center, cruise line, supermarket, and hotel restaurant-type food operations. Students will enhance their skills in a variety of cooking techniques. The associate degree will provide students with a broad-based general education which will prepare them for career advancement and wage increase. 

Certificate of Achievement, culinary Arts

Plan Code: 3147 - Students learn skills for positions in food preparation for institutional, restaurant airline catering, convention center, cruise line, supermarket, and hotel restaurant type food operations. Students will enhance their skills in a variety of cooking techniques. 

PROGRAM STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Students will be able to understand and execute food preparation in Food Service operations using proper knife skills, accurate cooking methods and plating techniques, with the enhancement of International Cuisine knowledge while applying Safety & Sanitation rules according to Industry Standards.

Will my credit transfer from another institution? 

Depending on which institution and the type of class.  This will be accessed on an individual basis.  Let your counselor know of your intention and he/she will be able to guide you. 

How long does the program take?

For a full time student taking 12 units or more, the Certificate of Achievement may be completed in 3 semesters plus one summer. 

What types of cooking experience do I need to enter the program? 

No prior cooking experience is required to enter the program.

What if I have a food allergy? 

Let your instructor know what types of allergy before your class starts and she/he will give you more information. 

Do I need to purchase food for class? 

No.  Your class material fee will cover all food ingredients.
