What is California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)?

  • CalWORKs provides cash aid and services to California families who have little or no cash.


What type of assistance can qualifying families receive?

  • Housing
  • Food
  • Child care
  • School supplies
  • Academic counseling
  • Interview/resume/job search skills
  • Transportation
  • Other necessary expenses

Who can benefit from us:

  • Any low-income parents that are currently enrolled in Long Beach City College with children that are under 18 who are receiving cash aid (welfare benefits) from the Los Angeles or Orange County.
  • Families that receive CalWORKs may also be eligible for child care services, such as help paying child care costs.
  • CalWORKs participants can also take advantage of our work study program which employs students to professional companies that will provide them with job training and valuable skills.
