Michael Scott Robertson is a Professor of Anthropology and Trauma Studies in the Department of Social Sciences at Long Beach City College (LBCC), where he has taught since 2013. A specialist in language and culture, he teaches classes in physical, cultural, and linguistic anthropology. 

A Long Beach native, Professor Robertson graduated from Millikan High School before earning both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach. His academic work has focused on culture, language, and disability. His anthropological work has largely centered on disability and family systems. As a graduate student, he conducted ethnographic research with families of adults with intellectual disabilities, examining their access to social and community support services and identifying areas for improving overall family well-being.

More recently, he completed a second MA degree in Trauma Studies from University College Cork in Ireland. His dissertation explored the relationship between Twelve-Step Recovery Programs and Posttraumatic Growth. Professor Robertson is proud to be in the Trauma Studies program at LBCC and teaches courses in Posttraumatic Growth and Trauma, Loss, and Grief.

In addition to his classroom teaching, Robertson has been a leader in online education at LBCC. His web-based courses have received the LBCC Exemplary Online Instruction Award in both 2015 and 2018 along with state-level recognition from the California Virtual Campus Online Education Initiative. In 2020, he was appointed Online Education Faculty Coordinator, serving a five-year term focused on promoting quality and innovation in learning across the college.
