Honors Program

For over 85 years, Long Beach City College has developed innovative educational programs to serve the public. In 1980, the college established the Honors Program to better serve intellectually ambitious, high-achieving students. Today, the program is an important element of the college’s curriculum, and its graduates have proven records of success in completing baccalaureate degrees as well as professional and graduate school degrees.

Honors classes are general education in nature. They are more intensive than non-Honors classes, encouraging and rewarding critical thought and individual research. Since class sizes are significantly smaller than non-Honors classes, students enjoy more individualized attention from their professors and deeper engagement with their fellow Honors students. Honors classes delve deeper into the academic subjects, all of which provides a more stimulating, enriching educational experience.

Graduates of the Honors Program receive priority consideration when applying to many other partner institutions which can be found at the Honors Transfer Council of California.

Honors Counseling

Honors students are required to meet with an Honors Counselor at least once each semester in order to remain in good standing in the Honors Program. Honors Counselors are available in the fall and spring semesters. To schedule an appointment, you may call or go to the Counseling Office at the LAC Campus in room A-1111.
