The LBCC campus community are invited to nominate individuals for the 1865 Courageous Leader Award and the 1865 Empowerment Award.
- Nominations will close on Tues., May 28 at 11:59 p.m.
- The honorees will be part of LBCC’s Juneteenth event on Tues., June 25 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the Bob and Barbara Ellis Auditorium, LAC.

1865 Courageous Leader Award
Established in 2023, the 1865 Courageous Leader Award is awarded to a Black/African American staff or faculty member who exemplifies the new beginning for all African Americans (as represented by the burst outlining the star on the Juneteenth Flag) and the new horizon full of opportunities and promise for all Black Americans (as represented by the arc in the Juneteenth Flag) by providing unwavering guidance, mentorship, and a supportive village for Black/African American students at Long Beach City College. 1865 Empowerment Award
Established in 2023, the 1865 Empowerment Award is awarded to a Black/African American community member who exemplifies a commitment to the Black/African American community through service. Nominate a community member here.
