Applied Program Auditions

After completing the application, you can sign up HERE for an audition time. Date and times listed on the form.

NOTE: Please read the program requirements necessary for enrollment in this course; this is a demanding program designed fortransferring music majors only. Please do *not* sign up for an audition unless you clearly understand the program requirements. Please contact Dr. Peter Knapp (pknapp@lbcc.edu) or Brian Hamilton (bhamilton@lbcc.edu) with questions.

Audition Details

Each audition is c. 10 minutes long, and consists of the following:

Performance:

Perform two songs or instrumental excerpts or short pieces of contrasting style — details of repertoire below. For time’s sake, you may be asked to stop your second selection part way through.

Sight-read a brief excerpt from the literature, in order to assess reading proficiency.

Pitch-matching, singing a short melody, clapping a short rhythm

Theory/Musicianship Proficiency:

Identify by ear: chord quality, scale type

Identify written: key signatures, intervals

NOTE: not being able to fully complete the proficiency does not necessarily preclude a candidate from the applied program, but will be used to best place someone in the theory/musicianship course sequence. A pronounced lack of proficiency can delay entrance into the program while foundational coursework is completed.
