Students

Due to the COVID-19 Omicron surge, Long Beach City College will defer to some possible changes in Winter Session teaching platforms starting Tue, Jan. 18.

Changes for Winter Session Classes

Your instructors will make individual decisions on which instructional modality they will utilize for the remainder of the Winter Session – a hybrid, in-person, or exclusively online. Please be on the lookout for communications from your instructor via email or Canvas to see if there will be changes in how your class will meet, beginning next week and through the rest of the Winter Session. They should be updating you by the end of this week.

Excused Withdrawal

Due to these unusual circumstances, students can apply for an Excused Withdrawal for a Winter 2022 Session class.

How to Submit an Appeal for An Excused Withdrawal

  1. Complete the Appeal for Excused Withdrawal form
  2. E-mail completed form to admissions@lbcc.edu

If you have any questions, please e-mail admissions@lbcc.edu or visit our Admissions and Records virtual lobby. If you have any questions regarding how this change could affect your Financial Aid eligibility, please visit the Financial Aid Office virtual lobby.

Student Services Operational Changes

Student Services offices will continue to operate online during this Omicron surge, with some in-person services continuing on a limited basis. Please check the website for updates at www.LBCC.edu.

You can also chat with staff virtually through the LBCC Chat Hub.

Technology Needs

If you need a laptop or hotspot for your Winter Session class, you can request technology help through the LBCC Student Emergency Aid Form. Students will receive an email detailing instructions, next steps, and safety protocols. Please email emergencyaid@lbcc.edu if you have any questions.

Spring Semester

Many students have inquired if there are any changes to LBCC’s Spring semester. As of today, plans remain for full reopening on Mon. Feb. 7. The campus community will be notified if there are any changes for Spring.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued safety precautions as we navigate this pandemic together.

Faculty

In response to the uptick of COVID-19 Omicron cases, and for the health and safety of our campus community, Long Beach City College will defer to some possible changes in Winter Session teaching modalities and employee work locations this month. This change is optional per each LBCC Colleague unless you have been previously deemed essential personnel.

Winter Session Faculty

Faculty will make individual decisions on which instructional modality they will utilize for the remainder of the winter intersession – hybrid, in-person, or exclusively online. Faculty are asked to please communicate with their students no later than Thurs., Jan. 13, via Canvas or preferred communication method, regarding any possible changes that may take place in how your class will be taught for the remainder of the session. These changes will go into effect on Tues., Jan. 18.

Employee Work Location (Except for Essential Personnel)

Employees, except for those colleagues deemed Essential Personnel, may work from campus or from home remotely starting Tue, Jan. 18 until Fri, Jan. 28. Please communicate your preference with your supervisor as soon as possible, but no later than Thu, Jan. 13 by noon.

Mask Requests

An approval process has been developed for the campus community to request (and receive) K/N95 masks. Facilities will begin mask distribution to LBCC District Personnel pending direction from the Reopening Task Force Steering Committee.

Spring Semester

Many employees have inquired about Spring Semester. As of today, plans remain for full reopening on Mon, Feb. 7. The campus community will be notified if there are any changes for Spring.

During this Omicron surge, we ask for your patience, flexible and safety for the health of yourself, your colleagues, and your loved ones. Thank you for everything you do for our students on a daily basis.
