Oeding Strikes Gold in Tokyo
Long Beach City College’s Coach Chris Oeding helps U.S. Water Polo Team win the gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Congratulations to Long Beach City College’s Head Aquatics Coach Chris Oeding and his amazing Olympic finish! Coach Oeding served as the assistant coach for the United States Women’s Water Polo Senior National Team that won the gold medal match on Aug. 7.

Coach Oeding has been the assistant coach since 2013 and helped lead Team USA to top finishes at two Olympic Games, six Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) World League Super Finals, two FINA World Cups, and three FINA World Championships.

In addition to coaching, Coach Oeding has also experienced the Olympics as an athlete. From 1993-2000, he served as team captain of the United States Men’s Water Polo Senior National Team in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and competing in the 1996 games in Atlanta. Overall, Team USA finished seventh in 1996 and sixth in 2000. 

LBCC is proud to have an Olympian such as Coach Oeding as a member of our Vikings Athletics program.
