The Long Beach Community College District has determined that the remaining Spring 2020 Semester will continue through remote instruction/online only.

“The collective safety of our students, employees, and community must be considered first and foremost,” said LBCCD Board of Trustees President Vivian Malauulu. “We are resilient and will adapt to this new temporary normal for the sake of our loved ones by being vigilant with our efforts during this unprecedented time.”

This decision was made by campus officials in order to limit any transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). No cases have been identified at either campus.

There is also a high likelihood that LBCC’s Summer Sessions will be conducted solely online.

“Deep cleaning, social distancing and rapid efforts to switch faculty and staff to effective remote working environments have been a priority for everyone at LBCC this week, and I am so proud of how they have responded,” said LBCCD Interim Superintendent-President Lou Anne Bynum.

The changes listed below will be in effect today. Any change to this timeline will be made at a later date, in response to information gained from public health officials:

• Long Beach City College is currently closed to students and members of the public. College facilities will not be available for use.
• LBCC converted most face-to-face classes to remote instruction through Canvas, ConferZoom, and other modalities. Here is the list of classes that have moved to remote instruction/online and will continue to operate in this manner. LBCC students and faculty can find helpful guides to assist them at www.LBCC.edu/Coronavirus.
• LBCC is currently transitioning employees to work remotely. This will be complete by the end of day Fri., March 20, 2020. Most faculty, administration and operational personnel will be working remotely beginning Mon., March 23, 2020, with some essential personnel to remain on campus. The new anticipated date of return to campus for LBCC employees (with exception of those who have been deemed essential personnel) is Mon., June 8, 2020. The anticipated date of return for students and the members of the public to campus is the first day of Summer Session on Wed., June 10, 2020. However, these dates may change as the COVID-19 health crisis evolves. LBCC will update the campus community on the dates of return.
• LBCC Child Development Centers are closed until further notice.
• A decision about the 2020 LBCC Commencement Ceremony has not been made at this time. 
• The Pacific Coast Campus will be completely closed starting Mon., March 23, 2020. All essential personnel will be working from the Liberal Arts Campus.
• As of Mon., March 23, 2020, no one (other than LBCC’s designated essential staff) is permitted on the Liberal Arts Campus or Pacific Coast Campus.
• The Wed., March 25 Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees meeting will be held remotely and may be viewed online at www.LBCC.edu.

• Semester events sponsored by Long Beach City College are postponed. Please visit www.LBCC.edu/Coronavirus for a full list of events taking place on the two campuses that have been canceled or postponed.
