Tim Shoemaker has been a full-time faculty member in the Metal Fabrication Technology and Welding Programs at Long Beach City College since 2005. He previously taught sheet metal and welding apprenticeship courses for 6 years with the Los Angeles Sheet Metal Worker Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee as Adjunct Instructor at Los Angeles Trade and Technical College. Tim graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1975 with a degree in Industrial Education. Upon graduation, he was indentured as a sheet metal apprentice into the Los Angeles Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 105. Tim spent the next 27 years as sheet metal worker in Local 105, rising to become a Sheet Metal Superintendent for a large mechanical contractor. He stayed close to education during this period, earning an M.A. degree in Industrial Education from California State University, Long Beach in 1985.

In May 2002, Tim retired from the Sheet Metal trade and is still a retired member of the Los Angeles Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 105. Upon retirement, Tim spent 2 years as licensed DSA inspector on various school construction projects in Southern California.

Tim also is AWS Certified Welding Inspector, an AWS Certified Welding Educator, and is a Structurally Certified by the City of Los Angeles in SMAW and FCAW welding processes. He also assists in managing the L.A. City Weld Test Laboratory.

Tim is a hands-on instructor who really enjoys working with his students. His main motivation as a teacher is to see the success of his students.
