Lately social media discourse has erupted with concerns over whether or not Filipino Americans (Fil-Ams) can be considered “Filipino.” Once we relinquish our Filipino passport, are we no longer Filipino? Questions like these are the byproduct of a larger issue: Why do so many Filipinos exist in the diaspora? What is the relationship between migration and imperialism? In this “Beyond the Box” talk, Dr. Stef Lira will discuss the legacies of imperialism on our concerns and conditions in 2023. With attendees, Dr. Stef aims to brainstorm anti-imperialist solutions to the concerns of Fil-Ams in the diaspora.
